The Bay Area bridge to nowhere.......

California's bridge to No-Where, made in China.
We were all asking for it when California involved China . We got  SHANGHAIED  — Talk about outsourcing. Our nation cut a deal with China to steal , California is spending more than $7 billion building what it says will be an architectural marvel: the new San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. But the state saved a lot of money sending some of the construction work overseas.  At a sprawling manufacturing complex here, hundreds of Chinese laborers were  completing work on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. Well again we all now see the outcome  ***At least 30 of the giant bolts that hold together the new, $6.4 billion eastern span of the Bay Bridge have snapped. As a result, Caltrans is considering replacing all 288 of the bolts on the new bridge before it opens, The Chronicle has learned. Abraham Lincoln once said, "If we buy a ton of steel from England, it will cost us $25. We will have the steel and England will have the $25. But if we buy the ton of steel in America for $30, we will have the money and the steel." I can't remember the exact words, but that's the basics of it. If we spend a little more on buying in America, we will have the jobs as well. It's time to stop the out-sourcing and look into building the American manufacturing industry again. Short term outlooks lead to long term unemployment. This is what happens when you buy materials from China; they're put together by corrupt contractors and corrupt unions and their incompetent, lazy workers; and the project is controlled by the crooks, lunatics, and idiots that run California, Oakland, and San Francisco. The drum roll . The result is a broken bridge that may in part have to be torn down. Engineers are considering several options for making the new span seismically safe, including installing steel collars and a concrete cap design, along with the replacement of the steel rods with another type of material. They suspect the broken rods suffered hydrogen contamination but admitted they may never know the cause. The real issue here is that state agencies like Caltrans (California Department of Transportation) can get away with exploiting Buy America loop holes, running six billion dollars over budget, and all the while shipping construction jobs overseas without having to answer to anyone. This situation is outrageous and it’s critical that we, as a community, use our collective ability to push for change.

NOTES AND COMMENTS:
It's vary curious to know that the bolts'  were  reportedly  which were manufactured in Ohio in 2008, are located near where the new span’s self-anchored suspension span meets its skyway. If you add the 80% foreign manufacturing to 20 % real American steel. America’s steelmakers utilize the most modern, computerized facilities in the world to produce safe, high quality steel.  As theNational Steel Bridge Alliance (NSBA) has pointed out, U.S. firms did indeed stand ready to supply the steel needed for the Bay Bridge.
While the Chinese firm was the lowest bidder, California taxpayers are now paying extra because the imported steel girders proved to be faulty.  As the San Francisco Chronicle has reported, construction of the Bay Bridge has been plagued by delays and cost overruns due to the flawed steel sections imported from China.
