Gen , Milley can't explain that he almost started a international incident . This should be part of the NEWS of ABSURD. The big discrepancy I see in Milley's side of this is that I have seen no evidence that Trump was considering using a (literal of metaphorical) nuclear option to disrupt the inauguration of Biden. The fact that the inauguration went on as planned is evidence that there was nothing else going on. A lot of these tell all books published against any sitting or ex President have always been part of the sensationalist tell all distortions of facts. Well the narrative is that (1)>>Gen. Milley had to make a drastic call to China & took covert steps to prevent President Trump from potentially ordering a military strike or launching nuclear weapons, a CNN preview of Bob Woodward and Robert Costa's new book "Peril," reveals on January 6th insurrection . According to Woodward and Costa, Milley believed the president had gone into "serious mental decline" following the election and was worried he might "go rogue." In detail , The Jan. 8 phone conversation between Milley and People’s Liberation Army Gen. Li Zuocheng is detailed in the forthcoming book “Peril,” written by Washington Post associate editor Bob Woodward and reporter Robert Costa. The authors report that Milley told Li that the US government was “100 percent steady. Everything’s fine. But democracy can be sloppy sometimes.” Its hard to believe what Milley said for a few reasons . (1.2)>>First Trump can't declare war without Congress approval , even to launch Nukes. There is a process. The United States has a two-man rule in place at nuclear launch facilities, and while only the president can order the release of nuclear weapons, the order must be verified by the secretary of defense to be an authentic order given by the president . There is also the first strike rule . Second , what Gen . (2)>>Milley did was ostentatiously dangerous for one . It could have lead to war informing China the way Milley did could have led to a unintentional counter strike , even though no US nukes headed to China . Supposedly the Chinese military was freaking out after 1/6 and were feeling like Trump would lash out and attack them. The U.S. military was concerned of the Chinese preemptively attacking so Milley tried to offer a reassurance to calm tensions That’s just an alleged narrative however. If you believe Milley is competent and just, you’re inclined to believe it. I am personally not, but we can’t possibly really know what’s going on actually.
Biden's Nuclear Sub Pact .
I find it VARY STRANGE that the Costa's book , Gen Milley's secret call to China . ALL this is coming out right in the middle of (3)>>escalating tensions with China. If no one has been paying attention President Biden Australian deal to provide nuclear subs . President Biden has agreed to help Australia build nuclear submarines and to launch a new three-country military initiative called AUKUS after Biden’s decision not to call Prime Minister Scott Morrison during the US pullout from Afghanistan sparked concern about the status of the longtime alliance. Biden announced the actions in a virtual event. Australia has been a key country in US efforts to stem the rise of China’s influence and the country already is a member of the so-called “Quad” group with the US, India and Japan, which was formed to diplomatically oppose China. As Australia crosses a nuclear threshold and the battle lines are being drawn for a (4)>>potential showdown with China, here is the question: are we ready for it?China has been closing the gap on American military power so much so that US Admiral Phillip Davidson warned that China would "forcibly change the status quo".China has invested in anti-ship cruise and ballistic missiles to counter US naval power. The fall of Kabul has raised questions about the future of American power. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian described the agreement as "extremely irresponsible" while Chinese state media warned Australia that it was now an "adversary" of China and should "prepare for the worst."At a regular news briefing in Beijing, Zhao said the alliance "seriously undermined regional peace and stability, aggravated the arms race and hurt international nonproliferation efforts."He accused the United States and Britain of "double standards" and using nuclear exports as a "tool in their geopolitical games," as he admonished them to "abandon their outdated Cold War mentality" — a common refrain from ministry spokespeople."Otherwise, they will only shoot themselves in the foot," he added. If the US cannot defeat the Taliban what hope is there against China?
NOTES AND COMMENTS:
(1)>>Gen. Milley had to make a drastic call to China .In a separate series of incidents, Milley is said to have reached out by phone to Gen. Li Zuocheng of the People’s Liberation Army twice, beginning on Oct. 30, 2020, after intelligence suggested the Chinese had become concerned the US was planning an attack following military exercises in the South China Sea. “General Li, you and I have known each other for now five years,” Milley apparently reassured the Chinese military leader. “If we’re going to attack, I’m going to call you ahead of time. It’s not going to be a surprise.”He called Li again after the election, on a very busy Jan. 8. . (1.2)>>First Trump can't declare war without Congress approval. There needs to be a complete review of the procedure to initiate the 1st strike nuclear attack. Putting this responsibility solely on the president has shown how dangerous it truly is. This needs to be changed, and I believe that it should be the responsibility of the president, the chairman of the chief of staff, I and the speaker of the house. It should be and unanimous vote. That the chairman of the chief of staff had to intervene in this case with Donald Trump, shows that there is a serious issue with the current procedure to initiate a nuclear strike. This has to change. NO BODY WANTS A WAR NOT EVEN CHINA OR THE WHOLE WORLD !!! (2)>>Milley did was ostentatiously dangerous for one . I wonder why call China ? Why NOT RUSSIA TOO ? Reps. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., and Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., said in a statement that they had already asked for records connected to the calls, which Milley’s spokesman has said were intended to convey “reassurance” to the Chinese military and were in line with his responsibilities as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The House committee asked the Defense Department in August for a broad swath of records related to the November election, the transfer of power to President Joe Biden and the Jan. 6 insurrection.I think a point some people may be missing here is that these records, while potentially problematic for Milley, can also end up supporting the case/argument that Trump was so dangerous as a President that his staff were actively working to subvert potential fallout from his decisions. It's tangential at best to January 6th, but will be interesting to see what comes of it during the next hearing.(3)>>escalating tensions with China. The U.S. is not the only country seeing worsening relations with China that threaten to spill over into the global economy. Australia angered China by demanding an independent inquiry into the coronavirus origin and sided with the U.S. in banning Chinese technology firm Huawei from supplying parts for its 5G network. The breakdown in relations comes at a time when the U.S. is seeing Great Depression levels of unemployment and while the economy has contracted the most since the global financial crisis and is projected to fall further. (4)>>potential showdown with China. Under the Biden administration, Washington and Beijing have clashed over human rights, trade, the South China Sea and Taiwan. As the United States attempts to engage China on climate pledges ahead of a key international summit in November, there have been few signs of progress. A 90-minute call between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Biden last week resulted in few specifics. During the call, Xi said U.S. policies have caused "serious difficulties" in the relationship, according to the official Xinhua News Agency.
