another "deep state" from a
failed state . We'll just have to
wait and see .
(1)>>For nearly losing the seat of the Speaker of the House . After a week of achieving nothing it’s on to the business of achieving nothing. Kevin McCarthy is now Speaker . For the Democrats it spells a lot of trouble . Well for the starts , there was (2)>> REALLY A RED WAVE . House Republican (2.1)>>Leader Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) said the GOP would have a double-digit House majority after the 2022 midterm elections. As it seems the 'red wave ' did happen in a different kind of way . Follow they money on Kevin, he’s power hungry and had to sell his soul to arrive here. His red wave didn’t material so he’s looking for revenge. Sad that he announces his intentions of revenge instead of performing his duties. No turning the other cheek here so his hypocrisy about being a man of faith, even used car salesman can’t keep from laughing.McCarthy is viewed as useful but weak. The pro-Trump crowd looks down on people they believe are frail in nature, and (3)>>McCarthy’s obsequious ambition makes him the ideal speaker for he is likely to go full MAGA ! Kevin said , "Let me be clear to you and I have been very clear to the president. He bears responsibility for his words and actions. No if ands or buts," McCarthy told House Republicans on January 11, 2021, according to CNN. "I asked him personally today if he holds responsibility for what happened. If he feels bad about what happened. He told me he does have some responsibility for what happened. But he needs to acknowledge that." I'm of course not saying any of this is valid. It is not, but giving anyone McCarthy would appoint a chance to speak and he will start lying in whatever ways he think helps their party the most. (4)>>McCarthy also must face the consequences of his loyalty to Trump. Although McCarthy initially did condemn Trump[ which is in dispute now that Trump instigated the riot ] questioning his role leading up to the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, he has done little to quell Trump's false claims of a stolen 2020 election [ again disputed claims of Democrat election tampering . McCarthy, along with 125 other GOP members, signed on to an amicus brief supporting a Texas lawsuit that asked the Supreme Court to overturn the 2020 election results. Probably they would have tried to frame it as all the Democrats fault in various ways. I believe that is the conclusion they would have started with for the civil unrest in 2020. They would have probably then tried to use the one to justify the Jan 6th Protests. But Democrats aren't without recourse if Republicans carry out their plans this Congress. Last month, McCarthy explained how (5)>>Democrats could retaliate against him for not seating the three Democrats under a rule he was fighting at the time — and later agreed to. There really aren't pros and cons here, it's just not a reasonable hypothetical to consider. He'd have to make a number of concessions to Democrats that would lose him more support among Republicans, thereby requiring more Democratic votes and more concessions. That cycle would just continue and isn't feasible for McCarthy. Plus, Democrats have zero interest in bailing out McCarthy and saving him from the monster he helped create. What's far more likely, but still astonishingly small odds, would be a handful of the Biden/GOP district Reps deciding to work with Democrats to elect a compromise Republican Speaker. Again, that's not going to happen, either, but it's a hair more likely that McCarthy working with Dems or Dems working with McCarthy.I do not see this as the Dems bailing out the Republicans I see it as the Dems bailing out the country. But this one is so clearly their fault. The Democrats are in the minority, they have no power to do anything that wouldn't be complete political suicide, and it's so blatantly obvious. The blame would solely go on the Republicans and there is no argument that could possibly stand against the Dems here.Beyond that, once the Speaker is voted in, they have to vote to set the rules for the new session of congress before they can move on to other business, and that can be contentious in its own right.
NOTES AND COMMENTS :
(1)>>For nearly losing the seat of the Speaker of the House . And after the first vote when McCarthy didn’t win, Gym Jordan who I believe received 10 votes threw his support to McCarthy and urged his supporters to vote for him. The second vote, Jordan got MORE votes than he did during the first vote. What exactly does Gym Jordan do while in office? Is his job simply to tear things down and not build things up? He's gonna be the new disruptor taking over mitch McConnell. This is why wishing for old guys to leave isn't the answer. Gotta get the roots of bad politicians out before they grow too strong. Normally this is a straight forward procedural vote, with the outcome being known well ahead of time. Even if the new potential Speaker isn't everyone's first choice, since the election is in early November, usually the party in control has gotten together and agreed who they will elect as Speaker. In fact, not having that sorted out is so unusual this is the first time in over a century that more than one vote has been required. It is unclear what will happen next. I assume McCarthy will have to make various promises or whatever in terms of his agenda as Speaker (which, I think he already has done, so more of that) to win over the small number of people he needs to win the votes. If that doesn't happen, the next most likely thing would be for the Republicans to come up another person that a majority can agree on. (2)>> REALLY A RED WAVE . In the 2022 US midterm elections the Republicans took control of the House . With de facto control over the House, they will focus on the right-wing political equivalent of performance art: a national abortion ban that will go nowhere, investigating Hunter Biden’s laptop, and other “anti-woke” ways to own the libs. That new term started today. The very first piece of business that has to be concluded before a new House of Representatives can begin any other business is to elect their leader (know as "The Speaker of the House"). The process is just to keep voting until someone has a majority. Republicans have a majority there. But it ain't going well due to the hard right faction of the party. He's now the first person not to win the speaker vote on the first ballot in over a century. As an interesting aside, the US Constitution outlines neither the process or requirements for selecting a Speaker of the House, nor the duties of the role. It simply states that “The House of Representatives shall choose their Speaker and other Offices; and have the sole Power of Impeachment.” (2.1)>>Leader Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) . California strikes again with another possible Deep State at the helm . I don't know what to make of McCarthy , he has done nothing for California like Nancy Pelosi . BUT it's possible to change him . MAGA Republicans are right behind him pulling his strings . Considering Hakeem Jeffries from the Democrats had more votes than McCarthy did, it's not only historically significant, but god damned embarrassing for him. While I know it won't happen, part of me wonders if there's just enough republicans fed up with the bullshit to jump ship and vote for Jeffries, handing Speakership right back to the Dems just because they know that they alternative is going to be either McCarthy or someone worse. It would be hilarious and no less than he deserves, but it's just a pipe dream sadly.(3)>>McCarthy’s obsequious ambition makes him the ideal speaker for he is likely to go full MAGA ! Kevin said . The California Republican faced a rebellion from the hard-right members of his conference who made a series of interlocking demands that mixed the political, the procedural, and the personal. But it’s not as if Trump compelled Republicans to go where they didn’t want to go. In fact, a big reason why Trump is so bad for Republicans is that he gave them permission to indulge their own worst instincts. But more than this, they also want to shape the GOP agenda with hard-right members on influential committees and guaranteed votes on priorities like term limits, a balanced budget, and border security. From their perspective, past Republican Congresses have failed to hold Democrats accountable.(4)>>McCarthy also must face the consequences of his loyalty to Trump. McCarthy decided early on to stay as close to the former president as possible, but even Trump’s steadfast public support .And aligning with Trump, who helped corral conservative support for McCarthy’s speakership bid this winter, isn’t the only shape-shifting the Californian has had to pull off in order to lead the House.McCarthy’s loyalty to Trump ultimately helped revive the ousted president’s standing within the party, and earned the GOP leader his endorsement for the top job in the House. Trump made calls on McCarthy’s behalf during the speaker election, and even re-issued an endorsement this week, suggesting McCarthy “will do a good job, maybe even a GREAT job.”Yet the great irony is that the very narrowness of the Republican margin of victory in the House is what is now giving outsized influence to the extremist forces that cost the GOP so dearly. (5)>>Democrats could retaliate against him for not seating the three Democrats under a rule he was fighting at the time —This is the paralysis that the Biden administration and the Democrats in Congress tried to prepare for in December, when the frenetic activity in the House gave off an apocalyptic vibe. Every move was hurried, with an eye on the clock and the knowledge that darkness was looming.Democrats are engaged in a perpetual “circular firing squad,” Business Insider wrote in 2010. “Democrats are having a unity problem,” NPR said in October 2021. “That’s familiar territory for them.” Last month Politico ran a Democrats in disarray article because some Democrats were less than enthusiastic about Rep. Jim Clyburn staying in leadership. And just this week there were (false) reports that Democrats were getting bored of the House leadership contest, and might just abandon the fight, allowing McCarthy to win.
